Antivirus Software Review
It’s crucial to choose the right antivirus program, since malware and other digital threats are on the rise. It should be able to safeguard different platforms and devices as well as work quietly in the background and not interfere with the normal flow of your computer’s life. It should also use multiple layers of protection, such as antimalware, firewalls and other security measures, instead of relying on virus-scanning as a whole. Find a program with similar lab results in testing and a user-friendly interface. Consider bundling features like VPNs, parental controls or password managers with the software.
Microsoft Defender, a free antivirus program, is a good starting point. It’s built into Windows and easy to set up, however it doesn’t provide all the online security features of other software. For a little more power, AVG is a solid choice. Its antivirus software for free is easy to manage and its Internet Security plan expands on that with added protections for mobile devices, it also comes with a VPN and password management.
Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition is another excellent option. It’s easy to set-up and forget about, and offers a range of extras including PC utilities that tidy your system and safely erase files. The full scan took about 25 minutes to complete however, it was able to find every threat we threw at it.
For Mac users, the most effective antivirus software is Intego VirusBarrier. It’s reliable and looks professional. It also comes with additional security tools, including parental controls, a secure browser and credit monitoring. The scans are quick and have minimal impact on performance, but it could be a little more thorough in terms of protection against ransomware and other advanced threats.
